Midterm Group Edit

Although I had fun creating this movie, group projects are not my cup of tea. Everyone has his/her own working method which was an obstacle, yet we maneuvered and our product is excellent. We began shooting at 12noon and finished at 3:15. The editing process was completed in one day, which was difficult, but I completed my task.

American Reality

IDEA...
My concept behind the next project is to explore the entertainment industry by way of ridiculous reality television shows. From DNA test to divorce courts, I have never understood why people air their dirty laundry on television. These television programs are unscripted, usually consisting of a dramatic or humorous situation, and this foolishness has become very popular in America culture today. I would like to construct a video that illustrates certain reality TV scenarios that will be informative for America’s awareness of its own self-image. Using the All-American toy, Barbie as charartcers, I will construct a space and the narrative will be based on found footage. Although made to be humorous, many of these documented situations are unfortunate. American culture will continue to embrace the comical aspect of these programs, however the question is, “is this positively or negatively influencing American culture?”

Imitated Show Episodes & Character References:

Story Treatment:
Story will begin as the host of a documentary program targets reality TV. After reading a brief statement, he will introduce video clips of the content from each show listed above. Finally, the program will end with a concluding statement.

FIRST:
From DNA test to divorce courts, I have never understood why people air their dirty laundry on television. These television programs are unscripted, usually consisting of a dramatic or humorous situation, and this foolishness has become very popular in America culture today.

LAST:
Although made to be humorous, many of these documented situations are unfortunate. American culture will continue to embrace the comical aspect of these programs, however the question is, “is this positively or negatively influencing American culture?”

Three Ideas

Abnormal Addiction...
In my Abnormal Psychology class, we just concluded a chapter on Addiction. I would like to video people who have bizarre addictions such as shoes, candy, flowers, etc. Then very dramatically record them explaining there addition...the what, why, how, where, when.
Ex. I eat skittles when im happy! I know all the package colors and flavor in them such as red (original)...lemon, lime, strawberry, grape, & orange!
A SUPER WERID, CREATIVE, YET TRUE VIDEO...
(Documentary film)

Music Visual...
My brother recently became the first African American conductor of our high school marching band in Columbia, TN. He has the ability of conducting any piece of music from Country to Hip Hop to Classical. I would like to video him conducting music while holding incents, instead of the traditional paton. These incents would be lit and burning while these motion paths occur. Depending on the music genres rhythm, these incents would move accordingly. I would like to have consistent candlelights burning as a background scene.
(Personal film)

Barbie Reality...
I thought about how ridiculous reality television shows such as Cheaters, Parental Control, and Maury’s (Who’s My Baby Daddy) are. Using a child’s possession, BARBIE, I would create a short film based off of this content.
(Humorous flim)

A Pregnant Dream Comments

EMO
I think that the concept behind this project was good, but it didn't seem like you had any white balance set. Also it doesn't seem like the audio was taken well. I had to turn the computer all the way up in order to hear what was actually being said in the movie. It was also very pixelated, which i found distracting. Other than that i like the narrative qualities of the movie. Theres a scene in the middle where you were holding a baby that i think comes .. any real instances to your dream happens. It throws me off, and i personally think that if it is needed then it should be added to the end. Other than these things i think that it was entertaining and i really like that you approached the subject matter with a narrative.

SHAMROCK
ok. I like the fact you added more "cut to" scenes of the twisting and turning in bed. this will make viewers understand what ur trying to do more so than just using it a couple of times like you did b4.

-next there's a scene of you holding the baby towards the beginning of those twisting and turning scenes and I'm thinking you just overlooked that piece. If you didn't then that's what it looks like.

-the way you switched up the order of the scenes, locker and party, makes everything shorter and to the point

- i'm glad you took out the baby scene at the end because it didn't seem to fit. the scenery seemed like a hospital but the fake baby was killing me and so was the dialogue, but I didn't really know what you were going for.

- the way it cuts off with you crying makes this movie seem like it was portraying a sad story. or that it was portraying a sad situation and if that was what you were going for then that's what feeling I was left with at the end

CHELSEA
I really liked this one better. I thought it conveyed the idea better than the first one. good job

Revised Pregnancy Synopsis

My idea of producing a pregnancy narrative video was inspired by a true-life event. The production of this film began as a narrative piece, and then quickly evolved into a more creative, experiment. This film was shot in an apartment and a school, with dimmed lights and accurate audio equipment. The casting called for two actresses and one actor, preferable college students trying to accomplish goals and dreams in life. Tiffani (main character) is a very determined female, who is a college senior looking forward to the 2008 year. With graduation, marriage, & a promising career ahead, a few days after a 21st birthday her life changes forever. Tiffani’s friend, Charlie, realizes Tiffani’s physical appearance is changing and addresses the issue during a conversation. Tiffani opposes this concern, yet Charlie hands her a pregnancy test. After a wild night, Tiffani wakes up vomiting believing it is just a hang over. After coming to Tiffani’s rescue, Charlie & Jay helps (a disoriented Tiffani) out of the bathroom and Tiffani only remembers a very sleepless night of bizarre events. These events were very vague in her memory as she encounters pregnancy test results, a Caucasian baby, an Ab Lounger, etc. Why? She is not sure. This film is full of absurd comedy, yet many issues in today’s society are present. The compositions overall purpose was to produce an abstract narrative, by way of reenacting an experience from my life. This objective was accomplished in A Pregnant Dream.

October 2 Edit

After receiving feedback from fellow classmates and 5 other artists (Shameka, Chelsea, Justin, Kamikka, Chris), I rearranged my content in order to create a new narrative. It is very choppy which I figured would add to the obserity of the piece. I deleted scenes that were irreverent and tried to trim down the piece from 8mins to 3mins. The feedback was very helpful as far as future camera options, set recommendations, etc. I will correct these issues in my next piece!
